Hey Craig, this is Brit. I sent you the Funhouse cassette back in July. Unfortunately I’ve got some bad news that I’m not sure has made it up your way. I don’t know if you knew Susan King (now Susan Parker) back in the old days - I didn’t meet her ’til a few years after we both moved to Austin - but she was good buddies with Mikey Donaldson (RIP), JR, etc. She was just diagnosed with a really aggressive form of breast cancer that doesn’t have a great survival rate. Anway, in case you knew her I thought you might want to keep her in your thoughts.

Blind Ignorents Back Cover
Blind Ignorents… I don’t know much about them personally. I remember seeing fliers for them, but I never caught a live show. This album is from 1988 and is pretty hardcore, with growling/muddled voacals. Check it out and fill in the details.

Blind Ignorents Side A - Blind Ignorents, Hardcore Porn, Cycle of Terror, Sticks and Stones, City of the Bayou, Warm Palce to Shit
Blind Ignorents Side B - I’ve Got a Date with Destiny, Pageboy, Love Stuff, Melt Me Down, Yuk Mouth

AUSTIN SAT/SUN:
THERE WILL BE A BAR-B-QUE or whatever, probably mid-late afternoon SAT (before the gig) and continuing SUN like noontime-late afternoon (we don’t leave for San Antonio until like 4pm, 70 highway miles and a 8pm door time at the gig)
annd for sure a “after-gig dance heat party” for ONLY DANCERS (and their associates or personal assistants) wherever there’s a no-curfew full-volume full-sized living room w/full stereo (turntable duh, although we let the 8-track player requirement slide usually) to run “danceoff” heats etc FOR $$ MONEY $$.

and oh yeah, NOONTIME SUNDAY will very possibly be a “ANGRY SAMOANS ANTI-TALENT CONTEST” with a giant 10 or 20 dollar bill for the winner. 8 brackets (teams/acts) minimum, 12 max (w/first round bye for the the top 4 seeds). we had a full 8-team bracket in both Orlando (2005) and Redlands (2006) sooo whatever. you know. like this.

he worse you are, the better the chance the 3 judges at the table will grade you equal to “really good, i love those Mahuvishnu acapella guitar solo scales duude, can you play Eruption again?”

MERCH HELP FAQ INFO
houston/austin/san antonio

there’s usually 2 orr 3 crew slots open on the guest list in swap for merch table help, plus my share of any free food/drink (which i never use). i get there earlier (me, aka mike) to do the load in and set up work way before door time.
being on crew/merch help also means you get first look at claiming all/any shirts you like at just the $2/ea cost (2.50 actually).
when there’s big conference hall type folding tables available (most gigs have them), we will have our usual over 100 diff $5 t-shirts/tops piled up by the dozens filling up an entire table…any fool can have $10 “tour t-shirts” but only cool people get to live in the same town as cheap huge thrift stores. East Bayyyyyyyy right on right on.

From an email…

hello everyone…. hope alls well? if you had anything to do with the punk/hardcore scene in houston, tx in the early ’80’s, you will probably remember my dear friend kaysh. she was at all the shows snapping her awesome black n white pix of bands and crowd alike. and now for your enjoyment, she has put together an archive of those heady days in her killer book, HOUSTON HARDCORE. please check out the link below for a preview, feel free to contact kaysh directly and forward this email to anyone you know who might be interested, especially anyone who could help out with publicity. this book is an amazing snapshot (pardon the pun) of our scene almost 25 years ago… wow, are we really that old?! and for those of you who werent around back then, its proof that us old folks really were young once!!

thanks alot and please enjoy the book!

SARAH
