More Stark Raving Mad…
Posted on 06.21.08 by Craig Flint @ 11:32 am

Ok, as promised, here is more Stark Raving Mad. This is the CD release of the Amerika and Self Titled/MX LP’s from Just 4 Fun records in Sweden.

Before I got this CD, I was thinking I had never heard of the other LP by SRM, but I was wrong. After seeing the cover and listening, I actually owned it at one time. As soon as it started playing, I instantly recognized all of the songs and started rocking out.

The included sleeve and cover has a lot of good information that I have been wondering about. There is a really nice history of the band from their days as Pissed Youth to heading off to NYC. If you’d like to order this CD, and I recommend you do, go to Just 4 Fun Records’ website and order it.

Here are a few songs from the CD to give you a taste.

Ignorance’s Day
Mr. Hardcore
Chaos
Choice
Set Them Free
Politishit

-Craig

p.s. I finally know who Justin Tentler is…

I Hate It Here, I Never Want To Leave Comp.
Posted on 06.21.08 by Craig Flint @ 10:06 am

I picked this compilation up at Vinal Edge last time I was in Houston. Chuck Roast wrote on the cover “Killer Local Punk Rock” so I bought it. I had never heard of any of the bands before. I just actually opened and listened to it this week and Chuck is right. This comp really does rock.

Recorded in 2004 on Mustache Records, there are 12 tracks from 12 bands. The liner notes are pretty cool. They describe the city of Houston and what the music scene was about at the time of this recording.

Here it is, so enjoy.

Fatal Flying Guilloteens - Cobra Pills
The Slurpees - I, Evil Knienvel
Bring Back The Guns - The Family Name
The Kants - Scissors
Sjolander - Divide & Conquer
Ume - Hurricane
The Jonx - These Days
Satin Hooks - Electric Room
Dead Roses - I Death You To Death
Swarm Of Angels - Hereafter
Torches Of Fury - Medieval Jam
God’s Temple Of Family Deliverance - You Are The Shining Star Of His Existence

Updates coming…
Posted on 05.03.08 by Craig Flint @ 7:03 am

It’s been a while between updates, but I have the Stark Raving Mad CD coming which has the first LP included. Also bought a 7IN from the band Manhole but it arrived damaged.

On a side note, NOFX is playing Missoula this Sunday. I never thought I’d see the day they would play anywhere near here. Needless to say, I’ll be there and recovering on Monday.

Barackstar ‘08
Posted on 03.08.08 by Craig Flint @ 10:57 am

This is an email from Mark of Sik Mentality fame, now Barack Obama fame.

Hello friends!

We just wanted to share our excitement and ask you to check out the current Rolling Stone magazine. WE PLACED AN AD IN IT! The momentum of sales & interest in the shirts, and of course Mr. Obama’s momentum (obamamentum), had me inspired to call RS just to inquire about placing a tiny ad. I guess I got lucky! Obama happens to be on the cover and I called the day before it went to print. So, needless to say, it’s very exciting. If you don’t already know, we’ve been making Barack Star shirts.

Verbal Abuse
Posted on 02.23.08 by Craig Flint @ 10:25 am

I first heard Verbal Abuse on the VA Rocks Your Liver LP. I loved that album and played it to death. I’m not sure I even realized VA was from Houston at the time, nor did I really know about the line up changes. I remember hanging with Nicki Sicki on occasion at various parties, drug deals and whatever, but I never knew his history or the impact he had on the scene. Damon finally clued me in one day that Nicki was in VA early on. Then I learned all these killer songs that I’d heard and loved were Verbal Abuse with Nicki as the singer. Songs like, I Hate You, Leeches, Boredom, I Don’t Need It and others.

Damon the told me how Nicki was in SF with VA and left the band because VA was getting too “metal” and even wanted to change the name to Metalica (sounds like Metal Licka). This is about the same time Metallica was getting big.

Anyway, Verbal Abuse has influenced lots of bands and have even been covered by Slayer. That’s impressive, but I wonder how many metal fans went back to listen to the original and liked it.

I’ve got a few tracks here from the re-released CD of Just An American Band-Live in ‘84, VA Rocks Your Liver, Them Boners Be Poppin’ Compilation and Red, White And Violent. I found some videos on YouTube that I included as well. The last one is crappy sounding.

American Band
Bud
Boredom
I Hate You
Right From The Start
The Chase
Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting
Ratt Pack
Melissa The Pissa
VA Rocks Your Liver
Her Last Sin
Red, White & Violent
Still Alive
